My life isn’t certainly that different from those who, for whichever reason, lived in London for some time of his/her life. Of course we are all individual human beings: different backgrounds, language, culture, habits, jobs, friend and I could continue until my brain allows me to. No matter how different we all are, there will always be one thing that, as “foreigners” will bond us all: London.
Some of us absolutely loved it, some of us absolutely hated it. Some of us just passively lived it. The truth is that we have all had the said feelings combined towards this city, its life and its inhabitants. Perhaps not having the records completely straight about London has made us comeback. This is what I have done anyway. I guess I was fine with it initially but now, boy do I feel torn!
How many millions (yes my virtual fellows, MILLIONS) of not British people have actually lived in London and then moved to their home Countries eventually? How did they (did you!) react to the inverse cultural shock of reverse back to your own people? Was it as easy as you had expected to be? Did you underrate your moves? Moreover, is there anyone that can actually understand what you were going through? Did you have anyone to talk to on a bilateral level?
I am asking all of these questions because I firmly believe (now) that going back to your home country is definitely as difficult as leaving it and this “process” should not be underestimated.
I surely am no shrink and I do not demand to save the world however my aim is that of linking people that have lived the London experience together and especially let them, let us, share our experiences together and, why not, help each other going through the cultural shock of .....going home! Let me point out that this is not an attempt of living the past. In fact nothing could be further from that. However the future is built on history and this, the London thing, is our history.
So this is why I have opened this blog. Dedicated to us, Ex Londoners. Feel free to post your experiences and thoughts here, past present and future. We can all learn from each other.
